Air leak in my ARBs
« on: October 26, 2010, 07:22:48 PM »
I had noticed before than when I turn both lockers on, the compressor comes on, off, on, off, and so forth; but looking at the videos from my wheeling trip last Sunday, I noticed that the front lockers seem to come on and off as well.  I am thinking this could be cause by an air leak.  Any advice on the best way to hunt that leak down?  And if it is in the axle, how do I tackle that?  I have not looked at my lines or anything yet (will get the jeep cleaned first, as it's all mudded up), but any ideas are welcome...

This should fix your air leaks  :wall:

Check the compressor too. Lots of times the big O ring leaks. A spray bottle with  soapy water can help track down the leak.

The bulkhead going through your diff is a good place for a leak.  Upgrade your lines to Russell braided.  And the compressor.  Soapy water is your friend.  And have fun :)

soapy water is your friend Felipe. even inside the axle housing. air it up and listen at the front axle vent, spray it if need be with soapy water, anywhere you get bubbles you got a leak. If it leaks air out of the axle vent it's time to pull the cover off and take a peek inside

The o-rings occasionally give up i the ARB, its a afternoon job to pull the third member to repair, it does not require re-setup of the gears if all you do is pull the third out change the o-rings and put it back. Keeping all the shims etc in their rightful places..... :)

OK, will run down with the spray gun next weekend (after my trip to Panama).  Hopefully the leak will not be in the axle...  Although, it's not like I can leave the current fluid in there anyway (not after the deep bogs we went through last weekend!).
