I know this isn't 4 banger related, but I had to share my recent experience with Chrysler.
Our '08 Unlimited decided to spin a rod bearing a few days before Christmas. Of course, it was 2100 miles past warranty. I was royally ticked off since the rig had always been run with full synthetic, changed every 3 to 4k religiously. The dealer quoted 4500 to put in a short block, which there was no way that I could afford right now. When I said that I would rather call my bank and tell them to come get the damn thing, they gave me the number for Chrysler Assistance. They assigned me a case number, and then I waited for them to "look in to it".
Long story short, after a week they called back and said that they would be willing to assist me by replacing the engine for "only" a $1,000 deductible. When I said no way, they came back with a $500 deductible, which I jumped on.
It still sucks that I have to pay anything for an obviously defective engine that was so close to warranty, but Chrysler did a heck of alot more than I expected them to. The gal at the dealer did say that since Fiat came in to the picture, Chrysler has been much more customer service friendly.
