Another 30rh question
« on: March 17, 2011, 06:25:32 PM »
My issue is the torque converter can't make up it's mind.

Under acceleration, the transmission acts and shifts normally.
At cruising speed, it will lock up.  But the smallest of throttle changes will cause it to unlock momentarily then lock back up.
I've had it do this 3 times in the span of a couple of seconds.

I recently did a 4.0L throttle body swap and spacer.  I readjusted the kickdown cable per the FSM after the swap.
This is a recent development, after the swap.

did you put a spacer (spacers to be more exact) under the cable bracket? if you didn't that's most likely your problem. You can make your own out of some 1/4'' pipe (EDIT: they should be the same size as the thickness of the t/b spacer)

If it didn't do this before the TB spacer install, it's likely the throttle cable bracket on the manifold like mentioned ^^.  You can also grab some threaded couplers from the hardware store that are 1" long and large enough for the TB bolts to slip through, or I can send you the real deal LOL.

You will need longer bolts for the bracket, 6mm x 40mm is what I use.

I'll have to go dig thru my pile of nuts/bolts/parts/junk.
I bet I already have something that'll work.

I haven't thought about raising the cable bracket.
Thanks!

There is another 30rh thread where the guy swapped his trans.
Mine was auto when I got it.

The TB swap made a world of difference on it though.

he's was asking why the 30rh swap from manual transmission (misunderstanding, that was another member in another thread) and not why he swapped the t/b

sharp he posted this after the fact they had already cleared all that up not to mention there is nothing on this thread stating he did a manual to standard swap when I posted my question about specifically a big t/b

Yes I thought both 30rh threads were by the same person, I should have looked closer.

Torch, I thought your question was in reference to me asking why the 30rh swap, not why the 4.0 tb swap.

Much about nothing.
