Has anyone had any dealings with ion alloy wheels? A friend of mine got the 171
Model and they look sharp!

Nope. Looks like they're (TWG) is a Chinese based company like most of the smaller companies are.
The main thing I'd look at is the offset. They only come in one size -27mm. That's 3" BS which is a lot. Many companies make the same wheels but with different offset/BS. I'd shoot for 4.75-4.5" with a 12.5" wide tire. If he staying small with under 10.5" then he could go with 5".
