Title: Gas Price Check
Post by: chrisfranklin on March 18, 2007, 10:44:51 PM
I'm paying $3.10 a gallon for regular 87 self-serve in the San Fernando Valley and that's the cheapest price going and its not even from a name-brand gas station.  At 15-16mpg city for my 4banger this is starting to hurt; and to think I was going to decent-sized, bigger tires at some point
Feel bad for all those 4.0L guys at 12mpg probably

I know that the high pump prices are supposed to serve as a hedge against any mid-east calamity that may threaten the ability of the oil companies to operate.  Only thing is, the oil companies get to keep all that money even if no calamity ever threatens the oil supply.  Now, the devious part is, what happens if you are an oil company executive, fairly well informed about affairs in the mid-east and you actually know that there is no real threat to your company's bottom line?  You are just jacking prices because you can get away with it.

Frankly, if that's the case, I think somebody who owns both a shovel and a gun should have a talk with that person.

wow. 3.10? it's been that high here in delaware but not for a while. we're at 2.50 for 87. there are a couple of gas stations that will run deals, (5 cents off today with gas card club!) and one that was even shut down by the cops because it was selling gas 1.99 and caused a 3 mile back up on a major highway. it's still one of the cheaper stations still, but because it only sells 87. they buy it in bulk so they can sell it at a cheaper price. all pumps and tanks full of 87. i even talked to the owner one time, they always have guy outside to direct traffic around the pumps there are so many customers, and hes trying to get the corn fuel so he can go even lower. he told me he knows a supplier that sells for 70 a gallon!!! he was very excitied about the idea and so am i.

but will he be allowed to sell it that cheap? or will he get shut down every day for traffic jams? oh well... if its a buck a gallon agian i'll be in line at the time he opens with my buddy's f-250 filling 50 gallon barrels in the back. and i'm not kidding.

$2.67 over the weekend here. Went up .30 in last 2 weeks , up .10 in one day last week because some talking head on tv said the troop build up was not having any effect in Bagdad! And the gas in the ground at the stations was the same they just paid lower wholesale price for! Never see it go DOWN that much in a day on 'good' news though!!!

The Exxons, Mobils and Shells are selling regular 87 at $3.30+ here.  91 is $3.60+.  5 months ago around the elections, prices for regular were around $2.50.

You'd figure that we took over a country the size of California (Iraq) that has oil reserves probably greater than those of the entire continental United States.  And, supposedly the oil revenue Iraq generates is supposed to go towards rebuilding that country.  If anything oil supply available to the U.S. market now should be way up (greater than at any time in history) and pump prices should be falling to historically low levels in real dollars (provided a reasonable charge is built in to the price to account for supply threats that could jeopardize the oil companies).

Wouldn't be surprised if U.S. consumers are currently getting jacked for at least $1.00 a gallon more than is reasonable.  That's like getting "held up" for $20 every time you go to the gas station

If i remember corectly its not the oil availability thats killing us. If it was then it would be derastically lower due to opening up Iraq and the huge oil field they found in i believe the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.

If i rember correctly its due to the fact that there has been no new oil refineries built since 1976. Even despite that those plants have been already built, and are being expanded we just cant refine it all.

Oh check out this map i found http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx

Seriously is CA prices high because of taxes?

I pay about 1.07 euros a liter which there are 3 3/4 liter to a US gallon.  At the exchange rate of $1.32 a euro that comes out to about $4.56 a gallon.

Man I can not add the cost should be $5.56 a gallon. And with my MPG at 8 it sucks to fill it up.

I paid somewhere between 2 dollars and 2.50 this morning, I dont even look anymore, the way I see it is this, you have to have it, doesnt matter what it costs, if it was a dollar a gallon or 5 dollars a gallon, to drive your Jeep you need it so I dont even care.  THe more I look the more pissed I get and the more I realize there is no point in even looking, I just stick 20 bucks in and drive till I run out again.

that corn gas is some bad shit.. if you have a carb it just eats the shit out of it.. aka if you have a snowmobile 4wheeler, lawnmower, weedwip, muscle car, any older vehicles ethinal kills your fuel lines and carb.. ethinal is a waste it is very unefeciant to make and the only reason it is cheaper is because of all the government subsidys...

oh man dont even try to talk about ethanol and carbs.  summer time and jetski shop all i did was carb jobs everyday.  it cleans out your fuel tank and cloggs the little inner filters.  bad news all in all

I thought that your engine had to be ethanol ready.  Sounds like they deserve to ruin there stuff if they don't know what they are doing, can't put a lot of fuels in a GAS engine.

It does which means nothing with a carb unless specified.  Even with EFI, it shouldn't be used unless the Mfg. has done testing.  Some cars that aren't E85 ready can use E10 or some other percentage.  Nice thing about E80 is for those with performance engines.  In the US it's hard to find cheap gas that is 100 octane.

well the th9ing is we don't really want to have to buy  a mew lawnmower, weedwipe, 3 4wheelers, 2 snowmobiles, and the carbs on our cj3a and 71 firebird. just because some liberal assholes think it will be fun to spend millions of dollars to subsidies ethinal.

I was thinking for what you spend on a gallon of gas, you can buy some pretty good booze these days.  Trader Joe's sells fairly decent "Charles Shaw" Wine for 2 bucks a bottle.

I think I'll stop filling my gas tank and spend the money on booze.   Driving is overrated

There's a reason it's called  "Two-Buck Chuck".

I know the "two-buck chuck" nickname   The '03 and '04 "Chuck" Cabs they have on the shelves at the TJs here are on par with brands retailing in the high teens.  I've probably drunk a couple of cases in the last three years (for the anti-oxidants, of course).   Its "gateway" vino though.  Next thing you know you find yourself buying expensive brands to see how they measure up to the Chuck.  Its all downhill from there.    :beers:

$2.70 here in CT. Most expensive it's been. I started driving around my samurai as it gets about 32mpg, but no power steering is killing my skinny left arm. :'(

Chris,

The Merlot isn't bad either.  Stock up for any possible Pandemic events like bird flu.  Enough red wine can be a real preventative for having to go out in public.  Though you wont be able to drive your jeep either.   :hitit:
