I got my 4WD catalog yesterday and they have some Smittybilt XRC front fenders and corner guards for the YJ . The prices are alot cheaper then Posion Spyder was. Is Smittybilt a pretty good brand, none of the guys I know have anything from them. I found through Smittybilts website a place online called 4wheelonline.com that carries them alot cheaper then 4wd does. The rear corners are about $290 and the front fenders are about $324 and that includes a built in 3" flare and black powder coating

Smittybilt isn't the same smittybilt from years past. Smittybilt is owned by Lund Holding who makes truck tops and some other things. I'm not sure if they make their own stuff anymore or are just a marketing house for smaller shops.
The only concern I have is the metals thickness. That's where they can cheap out. Poison Spyder is designed to take a real beating. I'm not sure about Smittybilt. Although at one time I was considering their tube fenders but then they reorganized.

It says it is manufactured from 1.5" x .120 wall tubing and 3/16 plate. So that sounds like it would be pretty good, if anything it has to be better or as good as the stock fenders and the back your just adding another layer of steel on. Plus my tires stick out about 6" on each side of the jeep so they will hit a tree before the fender flare would hit

3/16" is the norm I think. For HD stuff it's 1/4" though. I'd be sure to check the paint on the panels and probably repaint them. Then I'd seal the panels to the body so crap doesn't get trapped back there and rust.

Who makes 1/4" armor?

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong on my numbers. I could have sworn there were some companies making them out of 1/4" plate.
-
I don't doubt ya', I'm just curious. I'd like to see some 1/4" corners.
-
Most corners and rockers are 3/16.
For tube fenders the sheet metal is about 1/8th. Not sure the gauge maybe 14. Might vary between the various MFG'ers.

2 friends of mine have the smitty built full rear corners with fender flares they fit fine and you cannot go wrong for the price same goes for the front tube fenders not the greatest ever but about the same quality that I have seen from other manufacturers for a lot less money. The ones I am talking about are on TJ;s but they are not a bad product for the price.
Here is a pic of the rear corner

About the only thing I do not like is the crinkle type paint the first guy sanded them down and painted them regular black

Thanks, I think I might just have to get me a set. I think I will get some ordered here in the next couple weeks once I get a couple side jobs dones. Like you said AW for the price it's not a bad deal.

Sadly Poison Spyder is closed, so even though they made some good stuff, something was wrong.

Thats what I was orginally going to buy, but at the same time these are alot less. Its a shame they closed they made some good stuff

Interesting that they are now in CA. Although, with the high sales tax, that also sucks.

Im curious to see what direction they go with company, I would like to get one of their roll cages if they are still going to keep the same design to finish out mine

I'm not a fan of how they did the front supports. I know I'm not alone either. Poison Spyder has had a bumpy ride though. They had other a split of ownership a few years ago as well. I've heard that many of the smaller shops are having a hard time in this economy though.

Plenty of places that sell rollcage kits. I got the3 front part for mone for $220 from S and W race cars back east
Hell of a deal

See I kinda liked the way the did the dash to floor mounts. I liked that cause I didnt think it would take up to much interior room

It's not about looks though, it's about safety.
