Absolutely agree, that why you have a E-brake and should keep it in working order.
And +1 on that I6, renix motors are not worth swapping in. I don't agree to swap in something bigger than the 4.0L, but make sure you use an HO motor, not the renix.
does this engine have a really weird t/b in it and different coil and stuff.
My buddy picked up a yj that has really odd parts on it I have never seen before on a 4L. and it was swapped in from something else.

Yes, tb is way different, unsure about the coil as I've never had a 4.0L HO

cool what did it come out of cause he is having really hard time getting parts cause he doesn't know what it came out of!!
is there a way to convert it to a normal 4.0L system?

Renix 4.0L's came in the XJ's from 1987-1990, IIRC.

the first link isn't a direct comparison to the jeep renix ignition.. the jeep version doesn't have the map sensor built into it and the cps signal sent directly to it.. one the jeep version all the sensors go to ecu then ecu sends signal toignition modual / coil thing, assuming its like what they did for the ignition for tbi.

ya it was just a reference more for the picture. his modual looks like that one bolted to the coil like that.
was just nice to find any kind of info on it. click the 3rd link it's better.
we have been scratching our head on it most of the weekend.
anyway to swap it over or would you need the 4.0L HO engine as well? or would the different intake and what not swap over to make it a 4.0L HO?
sorry to kinda boycott the thread but someone mentioned it or something like it on this thread so I took advantage of it.

;) Thanks for the help my buddy and me are extremely grateful that we figured it out and got the info needed for problems. he can figure out his vacuum problems now!!
honestly I don't think it's a bad system very basic but is multi-port! only think I worry about for problem is finding parts cause it's a little more rare then the H.O. 4.0L especially finding used parts for it!
he is really happy I dug up that manual and info!

Not rare at all, parts shouldn't be an issue. About 1/2 the cherokees in the local junkyard are renix, and I never had any issues finding parts at the auto parts store for my kids 90 comanche.
