dunno the full story behind it - but if she would've had it in 4 low and 1st even with an auto wouldn't that make the converter engage? not sure how the auto works but i would think since i never stalled an auto while rolling that it might have worked - what do you guys think? (for the ones of you that have auto tranny knowledge).

With an Auto if the engine stops spinning the TC then fluid pressure to keep trans in any gear is lost, wouldnt matter what gear or range she was in when engine stals an auto trans basicly goes into nuetral.

i was thinking (more in the lines of hoping) that if you spin it fast enough would engage eventually

Nope, the pump is driven by the torque converter, when you spin it from
the rear it does not turn the right part to get the pump working.

At one point I tested this with a 700R4 up to almost 100MPH (Special conditions  8) )

On the other hand my 57 Ford Fairlane has a pump on both ends of the
tranny and it will push start at about 35.... Sometime older is better...

i thought i'm getting too old and my memory is playing tricks on me - I remember pulling a Mercedes once (with a tow strap) to start it and it had an auto but wasn't sure anymore since it was long time ago.
