Hi, Sean here.
Hopefully this forum isnt too dead. Carcaine addict. Picked up a project '95 YJ Safari off of CraigsList a few years back in Florida. I have another main project car that gets my free time and $$$, so been very slowly going at the YJ. A lot of "buying someone else's project" problems. Fixed a lot of rat nests of wiring, rust, replaced missing suspension stuff, blown a lot of head gaskets and decked the head so many times that my compression is probably crazy high. Built motor, but making way to much boost on a Chinese turbo. Currently in the process or planning of replacing the old school AEM ecu with a MicroSquirt, adding A/C, obtaining a hard top, etc. If you like slow and painful builds then I might have something to document here.

Nice!  Yeah, the flanges can be a place for leaks.  Some of them can be thicker causing problems.

Long time since this post, but wanted to follow up with the result. Did a smoke test to learn there was a leak at the intake manifold. This was due to the larger flange on the new exhaust header, and since it shares the bolts to cinch down to the head, the slightly thicker flange wasn’t allowing a tight enough seal at the intake manifold, hence the leak. Machined the face of the flange on the exhaust header down, which helped, but ultimately had to machine the upper face at the bolt locations to get it exactly right. Right connection, new gasket, no problems.

Lesson learned, even though it seemed tight and snug, this precision was down to .001” tolerance to really get it right. Thanks everyone for the input.

Hello, I'm a new member. My history with Jeeps starts at 16. Always have had one as my second vehicle, with an F150 being my main. I have had a 94 XJ 4.0, a 99 Xj 4.0, a 2000 XJ 4.0, an 2007 GC WK 3.7, and currently have a 95 YJ 2.5 with a 4" lift on 33's.

Hello I live in Panama City ,Florida by way of Little Rock ,Arkansas. I am in the process of re gearing my 97 Little Green Jeep. It has 3.73 with 33's and a 4 inch lift. getting 4.88's so I can at least drive it on the High way at 60-65. Also about to move to North Georgia , so I will be needing a little more gear to get around in the Hills.
Welcome!  If you haven't got the gears yet, I'd highly recommend going with 5.13s if you have a manual.

The Mess Hall / Re: Oil pressure sensor for the dashboard (name?)

There isn't one that sends a signal to the ECU.  There's only one sender and it's next to the distributor.  Should have one wire going to it.  It's just called the Oil Pressure Sender.

The Mess Hall / Oil pressure sensor for the dashboard (name?)

Hi, guys.  Have not posted here in a LOOOOOOOOONG time!  But I still have the Jeep!

Anyway, anyone remember what the sensor for the oil pressure gauge is named?  Not the one that sends to the ECU, but the one that sends the pressure to the dash.

The Mess Hall / Re: Welders and welding gear?
« Last post by Jeffy on October 22, 2022, 01:44:00 PM »
First welds in almost 30 years.  Looks like crap but also not that bad for the first time.

The second time.  Basically, I get a few hours a week.  I think I was having gas flowrate issues.

Third week.  Still playing around with settings.  The welder is a Miller DVI2.  The controls are kinda weird in that there isn't an actual voltage.  I've got 6 positions to choose from.  Wire speed is 10-100.  May have still had some gas flow issues.

Week 4.  Had a guy help me set up the welder.  Was pushing the machine harder than it needed.  A bunch of HS kids also use the machine and change all of the settings all the time.  I've always gotta clean up after them before I can do any welding.  Lowered the wire speed and voltage and it welded a lot better.  Kind of counterintuitive.  Hoping to get decent before getting my own welder.  I'm looking at the Millermatic 215.  They have a stick welder and a TIG so once I get better at MIG I'll probably switch over to one of the others.
