Topic: Tire carrier/swing arm opinions

When i get home ill be looking to get a tire carrier/swing arm to replace the stock carrier. Ive got my 33" spare on the stock one and i noticed it's started to stress the tailgate. Id like a swing arm set up but i want a real good one, with a simple, but good latch (dont want to have to be pulling pins, flipping levers and turning knobs just to open my damn tailgate), and i dont want it to rattle much if at all. Any suggestions? Id be open to swapping out the rear bumper too, if the carrier is sold as a combo or whatever.

I like the Rock Hard rear bumper tire swing that the previous owner through on mine. It's realy smooth to operate and not too pricey.

there is meany different designs but mainly for what you want is the flip style latch other then that just pay attentions to weight ratings to make sure it's supports everything you want off it.

if you are good a fabricating you could build one your self with a kit like I did

the rock hard one seems pretty sturdy (it better be for 700 bucks lol). Are there any that attach to your stock bumper that are of good quality?

There's always a body mounted swing out as an option. Bestops holds up to a 35" for 300. Not sure how well people like them though.

i have one of those, it's not bad but not great either, if i'd start again i would go with a heavy duty bumper mounted one rather than the bestop

it's a big improvement over the tailgate only solution but it still rattles (and i have the big TJ hinges as well, with the stock YJ hinges was quite bad even with the bestop tire carrier).

i have 33x12.5x15 wheels

I'm really happy with my built one I opted for the heavier spindle when I purchased from a-to-z fab.. I cheeped out on the latch and I used big bolts that we had laying around the shop.. the spin out bolt works good for me it's that big of deal to open and close.  also no chance of rattle cause it's basically bolted with the t handle I built and if it does you can put a bar on it and give it the little extra but I haven't had to.. no rattles at all

There's ORFab's swing out as well as T&T Custom.  I like the T&T but not the price.

I had a friend of mine fab up a tire carrier for my YJ using A-Z fab's kit.  It was a great bumper the only dislike  I had was the Threaded latch.  It always seemed to strip out

For a latch use a de staco latch and mount at an angle so it draws the carrier in and down, that will eliminate rattling

Both use their own hinges and backing plates.  I know the T&T can also be welded to corner guards instead.
