Topic: Synthetic winch rope

here's an unbiased in my opinion review of the synthetic rope, the guy replaced it after snapping his steel cable and seemed happy with the new line, he's got the pros and cons at the end

Fair review. I didn't mean to come off as biased or hard-charging for synth line. I stand by my previous statements: if there isn't anything wrong with your steel cable, keep it till it wears out. But once it does, consider high qual synth line as a replacement. I've worked with the stuff and it really stands up to abuse, even when careless mariners don't follow all the advised maintenance suggestions. If you do get this line, just buy a cover for your winch to keep it out of the sun. The high quality stuff will hold up better to the heat build up during winching..and use chafing gear when going around rocks. I have steel cable on my winch. The cable developed 1 or two flat spots but is otherwise fine. When it finally wears out, synth line will be going in. Cheers.

If money were no object. I would get synthetic in a drop of a hat. I'm a cheap SOB, so, I'd by two steel cables, some winch gear, and beer with the money I saved not buying synthetic. my 2 cents, for what its worth.

Well, with his BIG, BAD, FANCY Rubicon and its front and rear lockers and d-44s he may not need a winch like our unfortunate jeeps
