1.5" body Bushing Replacement
« on: November 30, 2014, 12:23:46 PM »
I have a 94 YJ that I put a 1.5" body poly replacement bushings on. I had 3 issues - 2 were the mounts on the front of the center 3 and the rear most passenger side bolt. The bolt broke. The 2 center fronts broke their mount from the rust or popped out of their rusted channel.  What I anticipated to take 2-3 hours, took 1.5 days!
To get the fronts out, I had to grind away the bolt head. Not much room for a 4.5" disc to get into the body frame mount. Another issue, had to reuse the stock steel bushing sleeve and separating the old rubber from it took a while to figure out the easy way. Forget the grinder, forget the chisel to knock out the rust shale, forget a long slender flat head screwdriver. Add heat to the steel sleeve, let the rubber break away from it, take an adjustable wrench and rotate the rubber. There are 11 mounts!

The reason to replace the bushing is due to rear ds hitting the floor under load and bumps.  The engine mounts and trans mount are good. I've probably bent the skid plate enough.

I feel sorry for those in the rust belt.  Those body mounts are supposed to stop turning after a quarter turn.  The tab usually rusts off and then it spins.

Strange that your driveshaft is getting that close to the floor.  Though with a 1.25" body lift and a 1" MM lift, mine is way clear of the body.

The PO of that Jeep sure didn't know how to parallel park,

I bought this in June 1012, all stock with 1" lift shackles. Over the years of my use, broke an engine mount and trans mount. It didn't have that torque bolt in it. Replaced the engine and trans mounts with polys and added the torque bolt. Street and wheeled it.  That's probably where the issue came...bent skid enough to raise it to contact.

I have a short SYE to toss in, but getting a new rear ds and possibly rebuilding the front at same time, is a lot more costly than this small body lift. Its a 1" Daystar kit...not 1.5"...same as on my TJ (put it on back in 2005!).

that's from running low pressure in the tires, they fold over in the corners and wear the black rubber.
