Good Wiper Blades for YJ's
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:53:25 PM »
I have been searching for GOOD wiper blades for my Jeep.  I have found some light weight ones that last about 4 - 6 months of normal use.  I carry a squeegee and water bottle to cleanup after wheeling, but would really like some heavy duty blades.  I am sure that I am not the only one with this problem, so any help would be appreciated.

I haven't done it yet but I want to cut down some Rain-X wipers.  Otherwise, there are no fancy YJ wipers.  Stock are Trico 12-2 Exact Fit Wiper Blades.  They're cheap and plentiful. Around $9 each.  PIAA has some silicone wiper blades in 12" but I've never tried them.

the new ones work just fine, they are so small that there is enough pressure on the blade (per inch as opposed to a blade that is twice or even longer), problem is when they get dirty - keep them clean and replace them more often.

You're more then likely going to have to mail order them.  No current cars use a 11"-12" blade.  But like I mentioned before, you can modify a modern blade to work and they are available just about anywhere.

Was going to ask and may just try it.  There are several 10" and 11" rear window wipers.  Does anybody know what the difference is.

Already ordered a set from Summit.

Like I said the exact OEM YJ blade is the Trico 12-2.  That's what they came with from the factory.  ANything else may work but isn't what came from the factory.  The rear wiper for hardtops is the same 12-2 as well.  Though you can fit larger blades on there since it's only one arm working the area.

The differences are usually the frame and how it mounts.  The factory YJ's were plastic and look like this;

11" will more then likely look like this:

They work but are smaller then the OEM for the YJ.  CJ's used 11" blades but had a different mount.  You can try to use a 13" or maybe 14" but you run the risk of having the wiper hit the plastic retainer around the windshield which isn't good. TJ's on the other hand used 13" blades but I've hear people using 14's.

Actually on mine a 12" hits the trim.

I bet the angle on the arms is wrong then.  You'll have to pull the arm off the shaft and reset them.

The stud that the blade mounts to needs to be 4-1/4"-5-1/8" from the bottom edge of the glass.  The blades should be parallel and the passenger side wiper should be just off the molding.

Mine are 11" to not hit the molding. I tore ligaments in my foot so have not been able to drive the jeep.  Have bought some rain X wiper blades and they are sitting in the workshop waiting for me to attempt the cut down.

I just picked up a set of RainX 12" wipers for mine.  The hole for the pin is offset on the wiper.  If you put the long side on the bottom, the wiper doesnt hit the rubber windshield gasket at the top, and works perfect.

I was at the dealership today and out of curiosity asked to see their wiper blades.  Bought a pair as they were actually quite a bit better than aftermarket.  $8 a piece, will see how well they last.
