How will it run at 7200 feet?
« on: May 28, 2006, 09:29:08 PM »
I plan on taking my 87 YJ with the 2.5 TBI out to Wyoming this summer.  I'll be staying in Laramie which lists its elevation at 7200 feet.  What can I expect in the way of adverse running effects at this altitude and what can be done to counter them?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The engine has a MSD 6A ignition unit and a K&N air filter, but remains stock in all other areas.

I've never noticed any difference.  It should be fine.  The problem with higher elevation is getting more air into the engine.  The air is thinner the higher you go.  The computer should adjust the air/fuel to work but you might notice a slight drop in performance.

Although I did notice a difference when I went from sea level to 14Kft but this was in a really short amount of time.  Basically started off at a beach and drive up to the top.  Didn't have much done to the engine other then my old Jacobs ignition.  I did take out the air filter though.  I doubt you'd have to resort to that.
