Building on the earlier stroker thread on this board;what about the following combinations.

block bored .060 over
crank journals offset ground to 1.97" dia and hardened--but not a straight off one side offset ground--an offset ground with a stroke of 3.55"
2.4l dodge rods 5.945" length
custom pistons with .8271" pin (or stock piston w/bushing?)

Resulting displacement would be ~172 CI
I'm not sure of the feasibility of grinding the 2.5L crank down that far or of the width of the 2.4l rods.


Another combo I was kicking around is as follows:
block bored .060 over
crank journal straight offset ground to 2.000" (3.606" stroke)
(6" sbc rods and 2.5L piston with .083 milled off piston dome)
or
(5.9" sbc rods and the block .015" decked)

This combination would also net about 175 CI but would of course require aftermarket rods. However I think a slightly longer and otherwise stock sbc rod should have a .9281 wrist pin 1" pin end width and .940" big end width;I believe these are the same as AMC 150 parts.

Any ideas?

This might be beating a dead horse but there has to be a cost effective way to make this engine bigger.

You'd expect these guys to put out this kind of supercharger kit for Wranglers, too.  It runs $2200 (vs about twice the price for some kits for Jeeps) and the compressor sits where an A/C compressor normally would. (in my case, I don't have A/C, so I have space for the install).  I personally would be more interested in this due to seeming ease of install & DIY without machine-shop (I'm not going to say that doing a stroker on the 4 looks like a heartattack. But, if you got the skillz or the cash could be worthwhile).

Well, the hard part is mounting the compressor and routing the tubes.  But they have that covered.  4.0L alternator mount is the same as the 2.5L.  Would mean that you could mount the compressor in the 2.5L but you'd still have to figure out air/fuel management.

I notice that engine is a Renix. It's doesn't use the standard AC/alt mount.  I think it would be pretty straight forward to mount one to a >'91 setup.  Would be easy to remove too.  If I had more cash and access to a welder, I'd try it.

man i keep on finding these trubos and superchargers for jeeps like this but i have a 1990yj so they dont work cuz they for 91 and up....arrrr...

ya a stroker seem like alot of work but if you have emissions ita alot easier to get it through than a forced induction system al thought there are some carb leagle kits

ya we used to have emetion testing in minesota but they stoped a few years Back... big reliefe.

if there was a way around smog/DOT issues, i'd go for the international harvester 2.8L TGV diesel.  weighs 450 lbs., i can't recall the hp and torque numbers but they're pretty good.  and think of the biodiesel!

I was talking with bennie from hesco and he said that in the early 90's they were using the dodge 2.2 turbo rods with nissan flanged rod bearings I not sure what crank they were using but he had all the details I am sure if you called him he would share the info on how to stroke the 2.5.
