i have a fried 2.5l and would like to know if anyone has installed 4.2 AMC Eagle 1988 in place of the 2.5..  the 4.2 is carbed the 2.5 is tbfi.  what are the issues with the computer, motor mounts, exaust ect. thanks for info...

why are you wanting 4.2L instead of 4.0L? just curious, other then that, might want to look into a donor vehicle with the 4.2L proper tranny, t-case and misc gizmo's you need to finish the swap.

edit. just read it was in a xj, xj's never came with a 4.2L, so no dice on a donor..

He wasn't to use a 258 out of a AMC Eagle not a XJ.  Then put it into his XJ.  The question would be what year XJ.  From what I remember Early XJ's have a smaller engine compartment then later ones.  This is what they prefer to just go wih a GM3.4L.  Not to mention it's practically bolt-on.  Although in 1987 (through 1989) the Renix 4.0L was introduced.  This was a better engine then the 4.2L even though it wasn't high output like the +1991 4.0L.
