what gear should I re-gear to?
« on: July 14, 2006, 07:17:15 PM »
I have got to get more top end out of my 4 banger or someone is going to run me over!  I've heard re-gearing is the best way to go, but I don't know what I should re-gear to.  I'm driving a '97 tj with 31's and a 2" lift.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Also, what kind of speed increases will this get me?  Thanks.

I've got a 5sp. manual and no plans to go bigger on the tires.  if I go to 4.88 instead of 4.56, what will happen to my gas mileage?

Go here and plug in the ratios for the transmission, transfer case and axle and it will give you a chart that plots RPM's to your speed.  Look at your shift points and you'll get an idea what ti will be like to drive at those RPM's.
