Basic Transmisson ?

Okay, have a rebuilt nv3550 tranny to replace the AX5.  Now what i need to know is how the input shaft enters the engine. Do the spindles go into the motor or does just the round tip just enter alone and the clutch disk turns the tranny. If the spindles do go in what kind of flywheel would i need because it will not fit over them. I could possibly get it drilled out by our local machine shop.

Kinda scary questions for someone who seems to be in the middle of a swap.  :wall:

The splines connect to the clutch.  The pressure plate bolts to the engine over the clutch and when you press the pedal it presses the pressure plate against the clutch which pushes up against the flywheel.  The end of the input shaft rides on a bushings that is in the middle of the flywheel. Depending on length it may never enter the flywheel. You may need to get a new bushing or get one custom made to fit.

got a new adapter bushing but do i need a new pilot bearing or are they the same. I saw in my jeep manual that there is a bearing but asked the salesrep at advance adapters and he sent me a bushing. It didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about but then again i could be wrong.

They are one in the same.  it should be a bronze bushing.

yeah. The bushing needs to be soaked overnight in 10-40w oil. The only thing i need now is the clutch disk. If u have any ideas of what i can use for one please tell. high impact want over 70 for one. i just want to find what vehicle i can get a clucth out of that will fit so i can go to autozone or somewhere and buy it for cheap. i just had a clucth put in and figured i should just change the disk.
