Rocket engine...viable swap?

What do you guys think of using a rocket engine from a Minute Man or Apollo type rocket?  You can get them surplus on ebay and they make like 22 thousand horsepower at the crank.  Actually they refer to it as "thrust"! Either way I'm think this OR an engine from one of those European high speed bullet trains. Think of the towing capacity!

You'd have better luck with a Helichopter engine.

Jeffy's right, a turbine engine would make much more sense. If you were able to fit the fuel tanks somewhere on the jeep, and the pumps under the hood, you'd still have to mount the combustion chamber on the rear. That wouldn't work at all, you'd melt your tail lamps.

Using a helicopter turbine would give you both torque and HP. The only thing to worry about there, is making sure you upgrade to a Super35 rear diff. The stock 35 may not be able to handle it.
As to the suspension... just don't disconnect the front sway bar. It'll be fine.:twisted:

I saw this at a Monster Truck show this year...




Engine:  Army Helicopter Engine producing 1500 horsepower
Fuel:  JP 1 Jet Fuel
Mileage:  15 gallons in about 8 minutes
Built By:  Tim Arfons and Mike West of the Akron Turbine Group, which is the same company that builds most of the jet dryers for NASCAR.

The jet jeep has toured all across the United States and Europe over the last five years performing indoor and outdoor shows.

i am a helocopter engine mechanic for the military, the bird i currently work on is a CH-47 D, A single engine weighs approx. 860 lbs, without the fuel or tranny you would need for the reduction gearing, ( The rpm is about 29,000) the upside is it produces about 4,700 constant shaft HP!!! talk about all the power yu would ever need!! The only two drawbacks i can see it the amount of noise you would have in the cab, oh yeah the price, about 1.3 mil per engine, thats without all the fuel management! HAHA
