A guy in my local Jeep club said that some of the Cherokee sports had rear disc brakes on their D35's and that they would bolt right up to my TJ. First of all is this true? Secondly, if it is then what years will work?

I don't think any of the Cherokee's had disc brakes. Although the Grand Cherokee's did and still do... They have D35c and D44's whick use teh D35c flange pattern. What does taht mean? It means both should work, I believe.

I know someone took some Liberty discs off and used them on his 8.25 since they both had the 8.25.

If you get the discs, don't forget to take the proportioning valve also. Its the valve under the master cylinder.

Remember you need a mechanical Emergency Brake when your engine dies on a hill climb and you loose those power brakes. Find out if it defeats your E-break, if it does you might wanna re-think the change.

OEM rear discs will have a working E-brake.

Correct. The Explorer 8.8 has a small drum setup within the rotor and a lever to attach a cable to. Not too hard to do with the stock D35 parking cables.
