okay so ive got a d30 in the front and a d35 in the rear so im going to order the 4.88's . i need the 4.88s for front and rear right? 1 set for each? and an install kit for each correct? do i need anything else?

Make sure the master install kits have carrier bearings some do sone don't.  If it doesn't buy them.  They are usually around $10 each and you'll need 4.  You might also want to get extra crush sleeves just in case.  These set the pinion bearing preload.  I think that's about it.

4.88's and a D35??  What size tires are you going to run?

Investing any money at all into a D35 isn't the smartest idea...  What ratio were you?  Some Jeeps had 3.54's and the carrier is different.

You will LOVE 4.88's!!

I hear that the 4 bangers do not have the torque that typically breaks the axle.

Its not the torque that breaks an axle, its the combination of friction and weight. I broke a D35 axle climbing a rocky edge, locked at both ends, 4.88s, and 34" LTBs. I tried creeping up, but alas couldn't get the rear tires to bite and pull me up. So I tried to bump it a little. I bumped and rather than climb it bounced and then it happened. I've since swapped to a 8.8.

Untrue...  They'll break axles just a frequently as the 4.2's and 4.0L's.

Better you guys than me.   :shock:    I just got an arb in the rear and have yet to try it out. I'm not hardcore , so I shouldn't worry too much.

im usualy in dirt and mud so that lowers the chance of braking axels a bit over bouncing it on rock.... that is unless i go in sand..
