Jet Chip Installation
« Reply #15 on: October 05, 2006, 10:08:56 AM »
Just bought a used Stage 2 Jetchip . I thought it was used anyway, but the seal on the static bag is in tact  :D! It didn't come w/ any instructions. I know it plugs into one of the ecu ports on the right rear firewall, but I'm not sure which one and I don't want to fry anything  :? . Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, what a coincidence, I just got the stage one off e-bay for $130. If you look under the hood on the passenger side there are three electrical ports, A white, gray, and black. It plugs right up to the black one. Takes all of two minutes, oh and don't forget to disconnect your negative terminal. I think you'll like the chip, I have the stage one, but what a difference. I really can feel a diference.Hope you like yours.

I never even thought about "chipping" my Jeep, let alone there being any difference for a 4cyl.  i think I'll be buying this shortly!!  I struggle to keep it at 55 on the interstate right now w/ 4.56's and 36's!

it's been awhile but i know performance products which is no owned by 4wd hardware advertised a jet stage one for yj 2.5.  i never actually got one but I know it was there cause i thought about it plenty of times.  the chips don't actually change programming in the ecu they just lie to it to make it send out different signals.  it's like telling the ecu you are at a different atmosphere. so there should be no problems with programming.  unless there is something different about jet

As far as I know I don't (it runs fine with 87) but I only put the stage one chip on.  I don't think that they make a stage two for the 2.5l.

I just sold my Jet chip Stage 2 on my 02 TJ with a 2.5L for 80 bucks... Jet says that you should put 91 in because it will reduce the pinging sound you might get. Plus on a Stage 2 you will need a upgraded thermostat!

I believe the part number on the 97-02 2.5L is 90017S. Just FYI

What thermo is needed? I installed the chip but I couldn't really test it out that much because my yellow check engine light came on  :? . I drove it for a while, seemed to run really well, then i noticed the light. No problem before chip or after taking it out. Any body have any ideas? Thanks!

Fan -Fricken- Tastic! Being somewhat tenetative without a manual, I had failed to seat the chip completely onto the receptacle, so contact was iffy at best. I noticed a small clip on the back of the chip that was about 1/8" away from what it was supposed to clip onto, and I really had to push HARD to get it to seat, but it finally did  :D . These chips will not turn your 4-Banger into a V-8, but they will make your 4-Banger MUCH more fun to drive. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Jet says that you should put a 180 degree thermo in, I believe! Go to www.jetchip.com and it should tell you everthing you need to know.

Thanks Tommy! Already have a 180 in there. All is really well. Wasn't sure what that check engine light was, and the thermo mention got me thinking. But I just hadn't seated the chip all the way. It's GREAT now! Thanks again!

ohh wait n/m its a jet sorry, i'm almost positive they do  i  went wheel'n with  a guy who had the 2.5l and he had a stage II  he said it made a huge diff and he could actually do  80  on 33's with 3:73 gearing!!

I am not sure what I have that added the most power and I am not even sure of how much power I have gained but I am able to sustain (until I have to go up hill)  85 MPH (and can get up to 95 but I don't like revving the Jeep that high for that long) in fourth gear on the interstate.  Here is what I have:  '97 TJ with 2.5" lift, Mickey Thompson Baja Claw 33" tires.  I have the 2.5L with a Pacesetter header, straight pipe instead of the cat and a borla cat-back exhaust.  I have the Jet stage I chip, K&N cone filter, and an MSD ignition box.  That is all I can think of at the moment.  I would definitely like to trade out my 4.11s for perhaps some 4.56s or even 4.88s.  Maybe I would be able to drive on the interstate in 5th gear for once.
