02 2.5.L automatic: 4.0L t.b., 4.0l air intake, K&N filter, Scream'n Demon coil, 8.5mm MSD Super Conductor plug wires, Stage 1 Jet Chip, 29" BFG all terrain KO's. Taurus E-fan, Hummer front bumper, Skyjacker high capacity trans pan, 48" hi-lift, Rubi susp w. 3/4" BB.

I thought it was interesting too.  He's going to have to make sure he can clear everything though.  The intake for the turbo is facing the firewall and will have to be rerouted.  The exhaust probably goes under the engine.  I didn't read too far but I'd assume he's going to leave it or else reroute it.  Swap the PCM and maybe even the harness (maybe not even that) and it would be a fairly simple swap.  At least all of the hard things are already done.  It would make a nice package, better then the 4.0L I'd say.

Why? you can still boost your 2.5L   Research, there are a lot of ways to go about doing it. If you can find an autorotor/opcon twin screw supercharger that would be the best for offroad imo... but those suckers are expensive. I'm hoping to be beginning to mock up my 14b turbo set-up after christmas. I just need to find a laptop since my g/fs broke, i can't really tune megasquirt right now  :cry: Only thing i can say that is good about the 2.4L is that the bottom end is strong stock i'm willing to bet and it probably has a better aftermarket support. But for most of us only looking to run a few psi it doesn't matter.

Because the ease of dropping in an entire engine as apposed to the hassle of fabricating a way to install a turbo or blower is far more appealing to me. Besides, I can get an entire engine with all the accesories, turbo and computer for beteen $200.00 to $300.00 at a nearby scrap yard. That's way cheaper than many other options including buying a blower.

I agree for low to medium boost, the 2.5L will work fine.  The 2.4L can be boosted to huge amounts according to what some of the SRT4 guy's are doing.  I'd be a bit worried about the transmission though.

With the forged crank and connecting rods in the turbo version of the 2.4, you just can't beat it. As far as I know, the standard 2.4 doesn't come with forged anything and neither does the 2.5. Also being as the stock 2.5 runs around 9:1 compression, you really couldn't run much boost without swapping the pistons out for a set of lower compression ones. 7.5:1 or 8:1 would be great. 9:1 is a bit to much boost and your risking some serious damage to the engine.

As for the transmission... I don't know a damn thing about it.  :roll:

7.5 or 8:1 is WAAAAAAAAY to low of compression for a low to mild boost set-up. 9:1 is a great starting point. if your doing some serious amounts of boost then maybe 8:1, i'd never run 7.5:1... talk about loss of out of boost performance. Don't use low compression to solve detonation problems, invest in an engine management system. Its really not hard to fabricate a turbo set-up, but if you can get a complete turbo 2.4 with all accesories and pcm for 200 then that would be great (but i know i wouldn't ever find those prices around here)... You still have to deal with intercooler placement, custom charge piping, custom exhaust work... Still some fabrication work involved. If you want to learn knowledge about turbo vehicles stay far away from domestic websites, i think thats the best advice i can give.

Ok, maybe I took it a little to far with the 7.5:1 but I've used 8:1 on several occasions years ago in the old Chrysler K cars. It worked just fine. Use to run mid to low 13's at a local strip. The faces on the stock 5.0 Mustang drivers was priceless when you beat them. Never really had a detonation problem and if we did we just upped the octane to smooth things out. As far as the engine management system... never used one. These cars were cheap and we were only looking to have a little fun. Not spend tons of money that we didn't have as teenagers. But, I can tell you that 8:1 will definitely work with a turbo under the right situations.

Yea it will, but what i am saying is that 9:1 will yield better output throughout the whole powerband. And running low to mild boost adjusting fuel and timing will easily stop detonation. So there is no need to lower the compression ratio. As i said, lowering the compression ratio is a ghetto (i guess less complicated in some peoples minds) way of stopping detonation, but adjusting the fuel and timing accordingly would be the better way. Back in the day before tuning was big that was common practice.
