7.5 or 8:1 is WAAAAAAAAY to low of compression for a low to mild boost set-up. 9:1 is a great starting point. if your doing some serious amounts of boost then maybe 8:1, i'd never run 7.5:1... talk about loss of out of boost performance. Don't use low compression to solve detonation problems, invest in an engine management system. Its really not hard to fabricate a turbo set-up, but if you can get a complete turbo 2.4 with all accesories and pcm for 200 then that would be great (but i know i wouldn't ever find those prices around here)... You still have to deal with intercooler placement, custom charge piping, custom exhaust work... Still some fabrication work involved. If you want to learn knowledge about turbo vehicles stay far away from domestic websites, i think thats the best advice i can give.
