Just a guess but, it might be the 4wd sender for the dash light.

See the small switch?  I think that screws into the hole.  I'm not sure how your 4WD light still works without the sender.

Actually, after I looked at the OEM setup, the sender should be inline with the cable.

Can you take a picture of the cover?

if you look in the pic above, right below the black cable and to the right of the brass deal, you can see a little plug that screws into the hole.  i dont know what the size is, maybe 1/8" NPT?  if you go to a plumbing supply or hardware store you could probably grab a couple sizes and find one that fits.  i did the same kit on mine and remember putting the plug in there but cant remember what came out of the hole originaly.

ok i jsut went out to my jeep to look at it agian adn now i think i knwo what im missing... the sencor is still there that consests of the thing to the left of the cable and the brass colored thing to the right of the gasket... and that goes into hte hole oposite of were the cable goes into (the hole you cant see in the pic)... what im missing is what goes into the small whole on the middle / underside of the disconect.. so im assoming that all that goes in that hole is the bolt on the far right of the pic... hopefully that makes my problem more clear.. it does for me if im thinking corectly...

ow dawww i need to read more carfully... so its just that little plug thing... ok so im asuming there is soposed to be oil or somthing in there.. am i right???

ok i have to bring up one of my uglier posts again... does anyone have this cable disconnect thing and if they do do you know how to adjust it or have any tips on how to make it work smoothly.. . it only fully in gages about every 1 in 10 times it try to shove it in... usually it takes me moving the jeep so that the gears inside Aline better.. the problem is it is winter and my jeep resides out side in the side yard... and the front tires tend to freeze in and i just sit there spinning my back tires... i guess i could just i could just turn the front tires to brake it loose... but its still a problem i need to fix.. after all it is a jeep and it needs to have the ability to easily go into 4wheel drive..

i had to bring this up today cuz i wanted to drive my jeep to work today to climb snow piles after work.. but i was running low on time and i couldn't get it to do  more than spin the back tires in my rushed frustration. (i hadn't thought of turning tires yet then...)

upon reading installation directions online.. it looks like somehow my disconnect is backwards...  it should engage by pulling the cable out and mine engages by pushing in.. which makes since cuz pulling on  a cable works better than pushing it and my symptoms are listed under the disengage in process in their instructions(pushing in). but i don't know how it could be backwards.. unless my kit was different.

upon even more examination.. i read that open hole that is for a breather on some models.. so wouldn't a breather be on the up side.. mine was on the bottom... so between that, my backwards 4x4 light and the pushing cable instead of pulling im thinking that it may have been installed up side down.. i don't know if its possible but it looks like a possibility to me.

well now i found a pic that proves that it is upside down.. but i can now see why it was installed up side down.. the correct way to do it makes the cable go under the fan shroud  .. looks possibly scary to me.
