lookin at doing this...

chev 350 (carb'd) sm465 205t-case cut d44fr...wanting to lift it so i can put on 40"boggers eventually so...with this setup, should i go for a SOA (have a 4.5" RE kit on now) with the springs i have or should i keep it SUA and do a body lift, tube the front, and cut the rears?

anyone have any input...i know its a 4banger site but my jp's a 4banger and all a v8 is is 2 4cyl with a little twist...thanks

get a hold of some tj flairs for a few extra inches of fender clearance.. i wouldn't go over 1 inch body lift.. and i don't know enough about soa and sua so ill leave that up to jeffy or someone else.

I'd sell it and get a early 4 cylinderr TJ with a blown motor.

The biggest problem with going SOA is axle wrap.  It will be a big problem with a 350 and tall tires.  I suspect this isn't for slow rockcrawling either. (sounds more like Midwest muddy trails/rocks.)  You could do a SOA front and SUA rear or you could add traction bars to the rear SOA to help with axle wrap.  The bars will need to be custom built since every Jeep is a bit different and using a universal setup usually ends up broken. You probably want to increase the wheelbase a bit too.

You could probably do a 2" body lift to get more room.  Then cut the fenders so you have the clearance.  Honestly, I'd try to keep the CG low and cut more.  Your 4.5" is a decent kit you just need more room.  Add bumpstops to keep the tires out will be required.  Most of your flex will be down but that's common.

i have had a tj before and the only thing i really liked about it was the fact that it had the 6 in it...and besides the yj has been in my family for 15 yrs...and has some value on that end of things...i don't think i'd do the SOA with these springs anyway...either way, if i can find one, i may just do a waggy d44 in the front instead of chopping the chevy d44 down, being that it is the same width and all...

my how the options are ever changing....i have scored a hard top and doors for my yj from a guy that parks his cj for the winter...gonna do a direct swap...my khaki soft top and 1/2 doors for his hard top and full doors....now if that isn't a deal, i don't know what is...and besides i have another top in my shed with the door frames for full doors...AND that same guy has an extra d300 sitting in his jp with blown gears so he said that when he gets his 4:1 gears and puts them in his jp, he'd sell me his short-shaft d300...with this option, id get a 21spl input shaft for it, do a flip and twin stick it, keep the 2.5 and ax-5, and swap in a hp d44 from a 79ford and id be ready to go....and instead of buying vehicles to get parts, just get the arts i'd need...that way, in the future all i'd need to get would be the tranny and motor when the time is right...maybe even the 258/t18a/d20 combo in the older cj i have access to as well....so many options...need help deciding which way to go
