Cheaper add-on metal vents probably exist somewhere or you can go supercheap and just saw some holes in the hood

would be kinda cool... reminds me when my family was in our cj3a going up.. i think it was engineers pass in Colorado as you come out of teleride and the end of the trail goes to ouray.. and it was overheating so we were going up this incredibly narrow trail with the hood up to release heat so we had to stick our heads out to see were we were going .

Couple guys in my club have used late 90's Grand Prix GTP hood vents.  They look pretty decent and can be painted to match the hood.

Great if you could have that kind of detail and evidence supporting all the mods that you do.  probably most of the Jeep performance mod manufacturers don't even go to that kind of trouble.  Awesome

Gees that first link with them are $$$$.  I'd just recover a set off a salvage for a few bucks.

it was a good writeup and i'm sure they would help but i have to think that if the ones mentioned above we designed and tested on an xj that they would help considerably less on a yj or tj just because there is no room or clearance in any derection on an xj while ours have a lot of room for the air to move.  i would just take out the inner fenderwells,  that should help even more than some vents.

What was designed and tested around an XJ?

When I had my XJ I installed a cowl induction hood scoop, did wonders, and looked cool. Found a lot of info relating to cooling a 4.0, particulary in an XJ, at this site:

they were originally brought out for the xj  all the pictures and magazines had them first for the xj

That doesn't answer my question on you're original post. You said

yet the ones in that link were tested on a TJ and don't mention an XJ anywhere.
