I have 4:10 gears now in my 98 TJ and looking at going 4:88 will I need to get a low ratio carrier?  what else will I need to swap them out?

The carrier will be fine, they are 3.73 and numerically higher so 4:10 to 4:88 will work.  I am assuming that you have a d-35 so you will need a crush sleeve and a new pinion seal.

if i recall correctly 4:88 is the lowest you can go with your stock carrier.. so you'll be ok but with 4:88 but cant go any lower.
