I'm helping the BIL to get a 1982 CJ-7 CA Legal. From what I was told, it runs but does have some idling issues when warmed up. This might be related to the emissions equipment being halfway setup. The Jeep was a salvage, built from other parts but I think most of the '82 is there. The usual things like the windshield frame and tailgate are from a donor. The full doors are from a early YJ. Tops a CJ though.
Here's what I get for the VIN:
1 - Country : USA
J - Manufacturer: Jeep (USA)
C - Type: MPV
87 - Model: CJ-7
N - Transmission/transfercase: 5-Speed, Manual Transmission, Part Time Transfer Case
C - Engine 4.2 litres, I-6, carburettor
1 - Control digit: Has passed check
C - Year:1982
T - Plant: Toledo, Ohio
From looking at the engine I think everything is there still. The Air Pump, Emissions Canister, Howell Ignition, etc. Some things aren't hooked up though. There looks to be an temp sensor on the exhaust manifold that wasn't hooked up to anything. (anyone have a FSM they can scan?) It looks like the carb was rebuilt not to long ago. I'm pretty sure it's a Carter but I'm not certain if it's a BBD or a YF. (didn't get a good enough look.) I think the engine should have a YF for that year. I don't think it has a Nutter Bypass though. There are still a lot of vacuum lines so I'd assume, stuff like the ERG are there.
The Jeep has a relatively new exhaust and a cat. The transmission was a T-176. It still had the AMC front hubs and the rear two-piece rear axle shafts.
Pictures to come...
