LED Tail light convertion.
« on: January 30, 2006, 01:40:09 PM »
I've read the how to tread on this subject and did help but have a couple of Questions. I and going to be going with 2- 2x6 oval lights on each side. What I would like to do is have 1 of the 2 be only brake and driving light , and the other do all turn, drive and brake. Any suggestions on the wiring of that.
And when doing the LED convertion I will loose the back up lights and License plate light. I think I will get the KC back up light kit and make a bracket to come off the back of the spare tire to mount them on to.
And for the licence plate still looking for a light that will mount on top of the plate assembly becuase I won't have enough room under the tail lights to mount one, and still look good. any suggestion or advice would be great.

Getting two sets is impossible unless you want to cut into the passenger compartment or relocate the gas filler.

Yes, you'll loose your license plate light and reverse light.  But if you keep the wattage down and use only a single light you can hook it up to the existing wiring.  Otherwise, you'll want to run relays for the reverse lights.

I'll have to look at this a bit closer to figure out how I can get them both mounted. Made a mock up and taped it to the rear end and it will look good.
Whats the max wattage you can use for the reverse lights? 55?

Thanks for the help Jeffy

You can fit two lights but the top one will be visible inside the Jeep.  Not a good place to put it since it leaves a fairly large hole and looks bad.

I run a single 55W.  I think the stock bulbs are 15-25w.
