Inverting Shocks
« on: October 17, 2007, 08:15:06 AM »
Hey guys, Over the summer I put on a RE4.5'' superflex. I bought some ProComp shocks to go with it. In the rear, the shocks would not go on in the virticle position because they hit the spring perch. I ended up putting them on upside down. I have started to notice that they act much weirder than the correctly installed fronts. Are there special shocks that can only be inverted, and has anyone else had this problem with interference in the back?

Not all shocks can be run upside down.  Best to contact the retailer and ask them.

You can usually feel the difference in resistance by hand before you put them in. If not then you can run them inverted.

Rancho 9000's can be run inverted or you can buy some rear shock extenders and use the shocks you have in the normal position

I'll have to check out these other invertible shocks. The problem is after I put a CV drive shaft on, I had to rotate the axle in line with the shaft and now the shock mounts are to far under and will only fit if the smaller end(chrome shaft) is attached.

Well you could use shock extenders on the rear axle, almost any 4x4 store carries those

I too run the RE 4.5" kit.  I had the exact same problem with the shocks hitting the perch.  It's a very common problem. I bought the teraflex shock relocation brackets for $30 and have had no problem.  Look here.

Chad<---Votes you spend $30 on brackets before you buy new shocks and invert them
