Tail Lights

Anyone know if YJ and TJ tail lights are the same? I know someone making aluminum bezels for flush mounting your stock lights but they are made from a TJ and need to know if they are interchangeable before he makes mine.

FYI, this is what they look like. They are 35.00 bare aluminum or 45.00 hardcoated as shown per pair if anyone else is interested.

if i remember correctly from when i had to get new tail lights. the plugs are different. and i think the light configuration inside is changed. but i think the outside plastic is the same... but i could be wrong and it could be changed slightly. i guess i could compair the taillights on my jeep and the rubicons today and get back to you.

The overall dimension of the lights are the same.  The plugs I think are different.  Looking at Quadratec the part #'s are slightly different and they are grouped into years 87-90, 91-97, and 98-04.

That's a really clean look. I really like it alot.  I've been contemplating what I want to do for a while now, debating between flushmounting the OEM lights or LED's.  I think I'm probably going to go with the LEDs from Mesa4x4.com.  As much as I do like the look of the OEM lights, I just think it would be too much work to get those OEM lights fit right.  I think that I'll do less work and use a hole saw for the LEDs.  Just seems way easier and less likely for me to screw it up. Any opinions on this?

Only problem will be doing that on a YJ.  The gas filler sits right under the taillight and it will look kinda ugly with the plate there.  I think the bezel will interfere with the fuel bezel as well.  I think the best option then would be to convert a YJ bezel over to a TJ and then fill in the huge hole.
