Topic: rough country lift kit...

okay so ive heard plenty of people bash rough country cause its a cheap lift kit, but has anyone, actually yourself or someone you knew and have first hand exp. with, really had problems? i just picked one up to replace my aal and lift shackles so i know the ride and handeling will be better, but is this just a temporary fix or will this last?

I had a 3" Rough Country/Heckthorn lift on my 96 XJ  from 96-98  it was extremly stiff, rode like a lumber wagon and didn't flex.  Other than that it made the jeep taller and it wasn't unsafe.

Your money would be better spent buying some BDS springs, boom type shackles and an SYE

Also depends on what you want out of the lift... From the pix I have seen it's a tight fit for 33's. By contrast the RE std. is huge and a pretty complete kit.

i have a rough country kit on my tj and have had no problems... but then agian it was for a tj.

my friend had one on his ranger.....the only time that thing would flex was with 3 dirtbikes in the back hehe.

I've got a 6" X-Series on my '01 TJ.  Its a little stiff but overall, it works fine.  I'm thinking of changing the shocks to soften the ride.  Maybe some Bilstein unless someone can recommend another brand...

My pro comp is stiff, but it has it's advantages like being able to go fast offroad. If it is too soft the Jeep will sway more I would think.

haven't gotten it installed yet, too cold and raining, but it dont think the ride will be as rough as the aal and 2" shackles. hell i think stock would be better then what i got now. any body got a yj rough country? oh and there was a choice between soft and firm when i ordered, i got soft. anybody heard of that before?

I don't think Rough Country has changed anything with their YJ lift since it came out in the early 90's.  Most lifts around that time were more for looks and less for ride.  I've heard the coils they make are OK but the leafs tend to be very stiff.  I'm sure they can be tweaked with better shackles, no trackbars, greased shackle bolts, loosened shackle bolts, etc...

i have installed it. had it on for about two months now. it flexes better then the aal and shackel lift so i'm happy. i've taklen it off road many times and never had any issues that i can remember. on road it is just as good as off, handels real well, and dosen't ride near as rough as some people i have read claim. the only thing i've noticed is that now tthat i put my hard top on i geta little of rubbing on the flares, but that's nothing compared to some of the other trucks i've driven.

for the price, $375 with shipping, i'm very happy.

Sounds pretty good.  Actually here locally, the jeepers consider rough country leaf springs to be good in general so I wanted to confirm it with somebody from another area.  Thanks.

i have bds dmw springs but i do have rc9000 shocks on the front and i actually like them.  they are new designed nitros but they were cheap and they react well.  i bought them cause i have a habit of bashing front shocks and one of the guys at my local shop said they use these on their comp crawlers for the same reasons so i gave them a try.  i am pretty happy with them.  i can't say for the leaf springs though,  since i run bds
