Case stretcher

Hey has anyone out there ever made a case stretcher? They don't look like much, but they sure are expensive.
Also; do you really need one to install the diff. gears? I seen conflicting opinions.

No, you don't really need one.  It makes removing and installing the carrier a bit easier but its not imposable to do without it.

x3.  Unless you're setting up shop to do ring and pinions case stretchers are just a convienence.
