OEM sound bar wiring in a 97
« on: January 18, 2008, 11:01:17 AM »
I got a good deal on a OEM sound bar.  I have installed 6 1/2 speakers (fit nice with new mounting holes drilled) and purchase the wiring pigtail for it.  The end of the pigtail has the 6 bare wires, think I have the wires figured out.  The blues are left and the tanish color ones are right.  The other two are dome light.  Does anyone know where or how the to wire the bare end.  I pulled the schmatic on the '98 so I think I have what the radio wiring harness looks like coming from the back of the radio I just don't know where/how to tie in  :puzzled:.  Thanks for any help.

The wires should be 18BRN/LB (left -), 18BRN/YL (left +), 18DB/PK (right -), 18DB/WT (right +).  The 3x2 plug for the soundbar runs from the driver side.  Looks like the harness goes straight to the stereo. The connector is called C323.  I's red and on the left kick panel under the dash.  You might not have that harness though since your jeep never came with the sound bar so you'll want to splice in wires.

Jeffy,

Is that the same red one that the hard top is wired too?  I can see the front speak wires coming out of the radio wire harness just before the harness enters the connector .  I didn't install the stereo so I still need to trace the wires from the back.  Looks like they did use the harness when it was installed.  One part of me says do it correctly and the lazy part wants to just clip the harness at the back of the stereo and splice in, but that still leaves the dome light to figure out.  Thanks

From what I can tell, it's the plug that the whole rear harness attaches to, but I'm just looking at a B&W drawing.

You have three choices, make it look OEM, make it look half-assed or make it better then OEM.  I'd probably run some better gauge wire from the stereo.  18 gauge wire is tiny stuff.  Actually if I was doing it, I'd have pre-outs on the stereo, run a small amp and run that to the sound bar.

I agree better than OEM is the way to go.  Thanks for the advice.
