Guage question
« on: April 26, 2008, 01:47:38 PM »
alright so I need to get a new speedometer cause mine either sticks at 0mph when i take off or completely pegs out until i hit about 60mph, and then starts working again. I'm lookin into the white face autometers, but on the site I'm lookin at they say that I might need to do some work to get them runnin. So If I go with the speedo and tach (to match, so it doesnt look messed up), whats involved? I tried lookin for it on here but couldnt find anything on a how-to. Maybe if someone can give me a link that would be great. THX

My guess is that it's not your gauge that's screwy but your VSS.  If you go aftermarket, you'll still need to fix your VSS.  So I'd check the VSS before buying anything.

Vss is the vehicle speedsensor its what drives the electronic speedo it generates an electical signal to make the speedo work. It should be mounted on the driverside in the back of the transfercase. Look up by the back of the transfercase skidplate

Sounds like your speed sensor, it's mounted on the rear output of the transfer case.  Easy to replace.  Easier than an aftermarket speedo.

Your engine computer uses input from your speed sensor in order for the engine to run properly and effeciently.  I'd correct that first.

well the thing is, that if I tap the speedometer then it usually goes right where its suppose to. I have to pull it out anyway because it was stickin real bad the other day and I cracked the clear plastic. But whats really involved in swappin over, at least for future reference because I plan on swapping them in somtime down the road. Thx
