Finding cheap Jeeps is very time consuming.
The teal and blue were off Ebay. The teal was real clean, ac, stereo, auto, hard doors, new top, new trans (10k mile warranty), tilt, cloth seats, and console. Blue was a very basic TJ with just a stereo. It had/s vinyl seats (front driver's torn), bad carpet, no console, bad stereo, torn windows and neglected top. There is some rust in the body. To what it is now.
The red 6cyl I got from another Jeep forum from the owner asking about brake work. He questioned $1000 estimate to replace the hard/soft lines, calipers, wheel cylinders and the pads/shoes. He was looking to sell anyways, so I gave him an offer. He accepted. 125k, hard doors, new ac, new top, new rear seat, new carpet, new radiator, stereo, cloth seats, console, tilt, needing brake work
. It has had 2 accidents and the lower rocker panel on driver's side shows filler repair. It is now covered with the LJ rocker cover. My plan was to fly out from KC to NJ shore with my kids, have a little vaca and replace what needed to make it driveable to get back home. Over the month of planning (he travels for work), he was worried that I wouldn't be able to repair in his driveway. So he shipped it for $1000. I still only paid the $3k. I had to replace portions of the steel brake lines as they got holes from the surface rust. I've swapped over my old Ramsey winch, added front and rear bumpers (rear with tire carrier), and added LJ Rubicon panel skids. I've got some harware (D60/14B, custom leafs, Klune/205, Duff radius arm suspension, mil 12bolt wheels, 37's) from another project to develop this into something a little larger.
The new red TJ I got yesterday found on local craigslist. He had 22 people email him and one even gave an offer. Owner countered but the guy never got back. I emailed at 10pm, verbally commited to the sale 8am and purchased at 1pm. Now loan is $57 every 2 weeks for 2 yrs.
