4.0 tb warm idle
« on: December 19, 2008, 07:38:20 PM »
I recently installed my 4.0 tb to my 97 2.5.  Everything works fine.  Its just when I first start the engine up the idle stays at 500.  It should at least be at 1000 rpm then go to 500 when warm enough. When I start it up it stumbles and wants to quit.  There are no codes popping or engine light.  Has anyone run into any similiar probs.  Thanks

Did you reset the PCM while you were at it?  It will take a little while for the PCM to learn the new TB.  Although, does it idle OK when warmed up?  I wonder if the AIS is staying closed.

Yes I reset the pcm.  When it is warmed up its fine.  If the ais is staying closed does it need to be replaced or is there a way I can clean it up etc.

I'd try cleaning it up then reseat the plug.  When it starts up the AIS acts like a choke and controls air flow to the engine when the throttle plate is closed and the engine is cold.  When the engine warms up the AIS should close and the engien should idle on it's own.
