? about the 2.4L
« on: November 04, 2006, 09:48:37 PM »
I've got an 04 TJ with the 2.4L engine in it that i purchased this year. I enjoy the little 4 popper a little more that i thought i would, but the one ? i have is, why does the motor seem like its sucking air thru a straw just off idle? I havent done any performance mods as of yet, because there's not much out there for the 2.4L. The only thing i can think of is, there is some kind of flap in the manifold that restricts air flow some, but im not sure. I know some will say to regear, and i may regear in the future after i install 31's on inplace of the P225/75/15's on it now. But the 4.11's in the jeep, pull hard in 2nd and 3rd while the motor wind out. Theres got to be a way the give the 2.4L a better throttle responce, so if anybody has any ideas on what to do about this, (Please Advise)

aftermarket air intake system..
I don't know if the 4.0 throttle body would work on the 2.4 or not...
get a PT cruiser 2.4l with a turbo on it and swap that! :D
Regear.

A new cap shaft would help.
bore it out...
how much work and money are you willing to put into it?

I believe the 2.4L TB to be either a 2.5L TB or a 4.0L TB.  The gasket is the same for the older engines.  I've never looked at what the ID of the 2.4L TB is though.

i read that u thought about getting gears to run the 31'2. i bought my 94 4 banger tj with 31 timberline at's. while not having monsterous grip like the 35 boggers i have now, the stock gears handled every situation i put'er through.  i of course have gears now and after spending a bit of my hurricane money and feel i am lacking on the high end but 4:88 gears and the 35's are still very impresive in 4 low while in first gear. its also become a pretty impressive rock crawler except that the 4 inch suspension is limited. but i wouldnt regear intill u put 33's if your thinkin about the lack of power to sling mud with the 31's

New to the forum. I have a 2006 TJ with the 2.4, added the Helix Throttle body Spacer, cold air intake, and a turbo muffler to let the gases out.  It has a 2" lift and 31" BFG AT's.  Has plenty of power around town and on highway when the wind is at minimum(will run 70 all day getting around 18mpg).  I am looking at the Firepower ignition kit and perhaps a Throttle body swap for now.

Yea get a helix spcer, works good on my 05 2.4L. Now a suggestion is go buy a cone filter from autozone the longer of the two. and take the rubber intake hose off the airbox and put it inside the filter with a little silicone. Frees up alot of air flow.
