Would a opened, but never used 60" Hi-Lift for $45 be a good deal?

It would be if it is a true Hi-Lift brand and not the China made farm jack.  The 60" Hi-lift run around $70.00 plus tax here when they are on sale.  I found a 48" in new condition (needed oiling) for $15.00 at pawn shop.  Either size it's probably on of the best thing you can get for your Jeep.

It's a good idea to carry a study piece of wood (bigger that the jack base) to keep the jack from sinking in the soft stuff.  I've had original hilift 48'' for 30 years and it's still going strong.  Keep the grit off as much as possible so it doesn't wear as fast, and oil lightly.  If it starts to wear in one direction, flip the lift head and go the other way.

Thanks guys   I went ahead and got it.  It is Hi-Lift brand and still has the manual and cardboard lable attached.  What do y'all lube it with?  The manual says something about lithium grease, light penatrating oil, ect.  WD-40 OK?

Never lubed mine.

I don't lube mine since that will usually just attract dirt.  A spray of WD-40 won't harm anything but it won't lube anything really either.

I have mine mounted to my rear bumper and it does pick up some dirt.  The easiest way, I clean it with high pressure hose when I knock the dirt off the Jeep.  After that a shot of WD-40 or what every you choose.  My bumper shields the jack from most all stuff slung from my tires.  It's worked everytime I've had to use it.  You WILL want to get or make a larger base plate for it, it will sink like they said.

I don't lube mine, just sits upright on the back bumper.  Havn't had any issues with it not working yet, but I carry a can of penetrating spray so that I can lube it during usage if it got gunked.

Mine is on the spare tire carrier. I use Chain and Cable lube from Napa P/N 765-1370 It's a dry lube that is made to repel dirt,sand,mud, etc. It works good.

FourbangerYJ I didn't think about using chain lube.  The stuff I use on our Harleys is a wax based lube that doesn't attract too much dirt.  I may give it a try.  thanks for the suggestion.
