CV Driveshaft for TJ
« on: April 09, 2009, 08:45:57 PM »
I've found a TJ front drive shaft (double cardan) for $50.  Can I have this cut down and balanced to use for a rear CV driveshaft?  It's from 97 4 banger with 55K miles.  I want to connect a dana 300 (flipped) to a ford 8.8 rear (longer than stock) with a 6 cylinder.  The tube is smaller diameter than the rear, so I'm wondering about strength.

If this won't work, can I at least salvage the double cardan and weld to a section of ford explorer rear driveshaft (V8 variety) and have that balanced?

It will work fine, as long as the d300 has a CV style rear yoke.  I often use shortened TJ & XJ front shafts in the rear.

Thanks.  I'll buy it this weekend.
