Anyone have a Yakima or similar roof rack?
« on: December 07, 2009, 10:18:38 AM »
I'm going snowboarding this week and I'm taking a friend, possibly two... So space has become an issue. My neighbors have a Yakima rack deal off their daughters old Wrangler that I'm going to look at later today. She used to rock back and forth to Tahoe with it all the time without issue. I just figured I'd see what other people have to say about them before I throw down the cash for it. It seems like once I get the set-up there's other accessories that would come in handy (i.e cargo box maybe?) for camping and such. I plan on making lots of trips back and forth this season so it'll definitely come in handy

How much money are you wanting to spend?  Yakima's aren't cheap from what I've seen and you can get a decent roof offroad rack for $600 which will probably hold more.

I have a older Con-ferr and I love the roof rack except for the additional clearance I need to be able to keep it on.  Parking garages are usually less then 7'.

I could go for one of those tail gate hitch mounted racks for a little more cargo room.

I ended up buying it today, only $125 for the cross bars and the accessory pieces to hold the boards. I checked them out online and they look to be well over $300 new  :pot: They fit great and definitely free up some room inside so I went for it. An actual cargo rack is something I've considered but I honestly don't carry too much cargo on a regular basis. And I'm thinking about buying my buddy's XJ in the near future so I'll have more than enough cargo room then and still be able to pack snowboards on top
