Outboarding shocks... On a YJ

Been following this thread on JF for the past few days

It seems like it'd be much easier to do this on a YJ than a TJ. I lost a lot of up travel when I put my 9" in, and even after adding the MORE rear brackets at the frame I still don't have the same as I did before the swap. I get bored and always want a new project to do on my Heep and this could be fun, and a learning experience. Still kind of skeptical about cutting into the frame... But it appears others haven't had issue?

I'm not necessarily going to to this, but I figured I'd see what yous' guys' think  :doggy:

looks interesting.. only thing with a yj is that your welds for teh new shock tower are going to be more critical since you have half of the load form the leaf springs connecting to the frame behind the shock tower unlike the tjs that have all the load in front of the shock tower.

Rear in mine is linked with the MORE extensions and raised lower mounts and I have no issue with shock length. Hard to believe you could have an issue with leaf springs.

The front fenders are rev111 now produced by metal cloak, I believe they are available for a YJ also

Hmmm, I thought Metal Cloak was the product line and Rev111 was the maker.

The lower mounts are much higher than they were on the D35. From the rear of the Jeep you can't see anything hanging below the axle tubes. I've flexed my junk out on the retaining wall in my dads front yard (mall crawlin' foo  :twofingers:), which is about 22-24", I've still got about 2.5-3" before I rub and the rear shocks have around 1" travel before they're fully compressed. I don't want to go to a shorter shock, so the only other option would be different mounts, mounted slightly lower on the axle tubes...

Sounds like a tad shorter shock is the way to go. Again my rear lower mounts are raised as well. Doesn't hurt my flex at all. I'd triangulate them before hacking the frame up. Unless you want to do it "just to do it"
