Author Topic: Has anyone tried the 4.0L Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer on a 2.5 L jeep?  (Read 2138 times)

anyone tried the 4.0 Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer on a 2.5 YJ Jeep? If so could someone tell me if they work, what has to be done in order to fit it?
I am assuming I can take the throttle body off of a 4.0 L and install it on the 2.5 L, without having to extend the wires, air intake, throttle cables, etc, that hook up to the stock 2.5 L throttle body. Am I thinking right or does more have to be done? Thanks for any help.

my 2.5 had one for the 4.0 on it, I just put on the 4.0l tb and it made a surprising difference

it didnt affect the gas milraga did it, also did you gring the hole bigger.

excuse the mistypes. I meant to Did it affect the gas mileage and did you have to grind the hole bigger?

Save some money and order a spacer from Bounty Hunter. The helix does nothing.
More than likely the manifold opening will match the 4.0 TB, but the only way to tell is to measure it. If you're going larger than stock, you will have to open up the manifold.

Has anyone used  a "Street & Performance Electronics Helix Power Tower Plus Throttle Body Spacer"?

Also I read somewheres on this site that if you get a helix body spacer, all you have to do is round the sharp spiral points to make it more efficient in increasing airflow and power? Is this true?

No.  There is no modifications required.  Poweraid sells a 2.5L kit now but I haven't seen if it's any different then the 4.0L kit.

The Helix is supposed to swirl the air to make it more turbulant so you get better atomization once it it reaches the injectors.  I'm not sure if it actually does this or not.  You can take a sanding drum and bore the TB smoother or else just buy a spacer on ebay or wherever with the spiral.  You should be able to find them for around $45.  I wouldn't pay more then $60 for the Poweraid.  Oh and the spacer you linked to is the original company who designed the Poweraid spacer.  Notice they will refer to the spiral as a helix like Poweraid does.  It's the same spacer but without the CARB sticker and the red anodizing.  I needed the CARB sticker since I'm in CA but if you're not in CA then there is no reason to spend more for the same thing.  But like I said, you can find these cheap on ebay, or at least you used to.  You don't need any brackets spacers unless you have an automatic.  The throttle cable should be OK.  You can move it up but you'll have to cut a tab off to do so.  I haven't had any issues.

In my opinion the helix does nothing, it's too tight to effect such a fast moving air charge.  Most spacers with the helix bore actually restrict airflow as the bore of the helix can be pretty tight.

I have an '89 Wrangler with the 2.5.  A couple of years ago, I replaced the engine with a junkyard engine that my son and I rebuilt, and we put in a throttle body spacer we fabbed up ourselves.  I don't think the spacer did any good on the 2.5 TBI engine.  My opinion; my experience.  If you do put on the spacer (and even if you don't), it would be a good idea to open up the transition opening under the throttle body and smooth the sharp edges, otherwise you will have a built in restriction that will negate the purpose of the spacer.  I think the EFI manifold is OK the way it is.  Good Luck!

got any pics of the transision?ive never been brave enough to take off my tbi adn investigate. what did you make it out of... a member on here had made a tb spacer for his tbi 2.5l and reported "can feel a bit more mid range power from the spacer mods which now has the bore matched to both Intake and Throttle body openings.".from what he said it sounded like the tb opening was smaller than the opening in the manifold.

i had a look at spacers for a while, and here's my take on the issue:

the stock intake and t/b form a 90 deg angle for the airflow at the point you install the t/b. the butterfly is positioned perpendicular to the airflow direction towards the cyl head intake valves. when you add a spacer you raise the butterfly and therefore the airflow would have more "room" to curve towards the cyl head w/o having to fight with the butterfly - think of it as a rudder in the airplane - it will direct the airflow directly down towards the bottom of the intake manifold. So by raising the t/b you relieve some of that restriction - this is for wide open throttle and close to that position.

the helix type is meant to give some swirl effect on the airflow and improve the VE - not sure how well it works on the Jeep intake - i've read that it actually helps but i cannot confirm that in any way, so take it as is.

thats awesome I wonder how much my 64mm t/b with the intake bored to 64mm as well and intake runners gasket matched to the head and pacesetter header made!!
