engine chatter
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:32:19 PM »
When my motor is cold i get a chatter from the engine, it sounds like a header leak or maybe a gasket leak once the motor is warm it stops but if i sit for a little bit engine running it starts up again, any ideas on what to do it is just annoying and i dont think its a good thing either, i am planning on installing a banks tourque tube header soon, dont know if that  will fix the problem but any advice is welcome!

Well, honestly, the AMC I4 and I6's aren't quiet engines.  When starting up you'll probably heard some valve tap.  Hydraulic lifters will take a second or so to build up enough pressure.

Mine is an 01 with 50k and it seems like it has always ticked, knocked and it even chatters at full throttle.  I've learned to love it

If you're looking for some more top-end power....yes.   If you are willing to sacrifice some bottom end torque.   Banks products are well engineered.  I'd reccomend doing a new exhaust after the header is on.  Drive it with just the header, then do the exhaust...feel the overall power gain.
