Couple of lift ?'s
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:08:20 AM »
I've been researching lifts for my 98 TJ and i really like the 3.75 inch suspension(2.5in) and body(1.25in) combo from Rough Country. My first question is if I will be able to run 34-10.50 LTB's on the stock wheels with that lift? I plan on trimming the stock fenders flares. My next question is do I really need to use the t-case spacers that come with the kit (i'd really rather not lose the ground clearance) or can i just angle up the rear axle slightly? Any advice would be much appreciated.  :beers:

You should be able to get by without the transfer case drop on a 2.5" suspension lift, although a 1" motor mount lift would be an even better option.

33" tires would be the max I would run with that lift, the 34" LTB runs pretty true to size and will eat up the fenders unless you adjust the bumpstops to limit uptravel.

i had 2.5'' lift with only angle shims under the rear axle (have a YJ) - should work but it's not perfect. Like Bounty said, you might want a motor mount lift rather and shouldn't be a problem since you already get the body lift. You'll still need to adjust the pinion angle in that case.

Those 34's are bias ply tires and will measure about the same height(and probably weight) as a 35" radial MT.  I use a 34x9.5r15 as my spare actually and it measures a round 34.5".  Interco's Bias ply tires all run true or larger as they are usually made a bit taller to get a bit more tread life out of them as they wear faster.

Thanks for the input advice. I would also like to thank Jeffy for his well organized post about the 4.0 throttle body swap. I just put one on my Jeep today and it has made a very noticable difference at highway speeds. Tommorow I will be putting on a Thrush glasspack!
