New tires!
« on: April 23, 2010, 07:17:41 PM »
I've been working a lot lately so I finally had the cash to buy some new meats!

Today I ordered a set of the new MT/R's, 35x12.50's. Total they were $1092 out the door, and they'll be in some time next week, I got them at 4 Wheel Parts here in town. I really wanted KM 2's but with the nat'l backorder and some mixed reviews, I said screw it and went for the Goodyears. People have been telling me they're almost silent on road and seem to do great in any terrain.

I feel a bit tense about dropping that much money on a set of tires but it's out of my hair now and I know I'll be stoked once they're on. Pics will definitely come when I get em  :smokes:

I've heard the new MT/R's aren't bad but you have to get around the looks.  I really like my old MT/R's.

I wasn't a fan of them when I first the saw pictures online, but when I saw my first set in person they started to grow on me. I have a friend that has a set of his Dodge and the more I looked at them the more I started to really like them. I liked my old ones as well, I bought them used but they still had decent tread and did much better than my 33" BFG's. I looked into a handful of other tires but they were all the same, if not more, than the Goodyears.

I hope they are as quiet as what I've been told... Also- with this being my first set of new tires, isn't there a sort of break-in period before I can air them down when I go fool around? I was thinking about doing some light trailing with a friend next or the following weekend

Good choice, MTR's have a much tougher sidewall than the KM2's and once you have a couple of offroad trips on them they bite pretty good

Congrats!  I have heard they are a pretty tough tire...  And handle very well on pavement for an MT!

I really wanted KM 2's but with the nat'l backorder and some mixed reviews, I said screw it and went for the Goodyears. People have been telling me they're almost silent on road and seem to do great in any terrain.

For what it's worth, my KM2's are fairly quiet (I cannot hear them over the Jeep), and so far, have handled everything I have thrown at them...  Mostly mud and roads, though; not that many rocks around here (except around rivers!).

Good choice, MTR's have a much tougher sidewall than the KM2's

I've put a rather nice scar in my KM2's (I wish I could say it was the result of wheeling, but it actually happened when the wheel came off the Jeep while driving in Panama!), and I thought that tire was done for (hence the reason I put it as a spare), but it has not lost pressure or deformed, so I'm keeping it as the spare tire.  Here are some pics of that:

Oh, and sorry about the crappy pic quality; I used the phone...

If they are 35's they should not have the white lettering on the outside.

33's and smaller have the white lettering on the outside.

I could change mine but that tire does have an inside and outside on it.

Good choice.  Their appearance has grown on me.  I got to see some KM2s up close recently and the side lug spacing is actually pretty tight...it seems the old KM is actually a more agressive tire.  The MT/Rs seem to be even better and have gotten very good reviews.

I'm definitely not doubting their quality, if they weren't on back order I probably would have bought a set. but that was just one more reason to try the new MT/R's  :bandit:

I stopped in yesterday to pay the balance (made an $800 deposit Friday) and they said it's looking like they'll be in next Monday, maybe sooner. They're also going to try and steal a set from another company and get them here this week if they can. Which would be awesome, and considering they're slow right now maybe they'll have time to make some phone calls for me  :smokes:

So it went from possibly getting them this past week, to where they should be in Compton by today or as far out as the 11th. I don't mind a bit of a wait since I don't really have a choice, but if I don't see them by the 11th I might become a tad upset...
