I've searched and can't figure this out.

I have an 87 wrangler with a weak engine. I've got a good used pullout drivetrain from a 95. (knew the owner, it was free and all that stuff.) I got most of the accessories And it would appear to faster and more desirable to use the 95 accessories. (It has a higher amp alternator. I like the PS setup better.) I'm narrowing down the parts I need to swap the engine. I was going to use the 87 intake and exhaust, other engine mounted sensors and such.  I want to keep the 95 tranny because of the external slave.

Jeep lists two different numbers for the flywheels and two numbers for the Crank packages. I know if your Crank sensor is out of kilter your not running and I get to do all of this in a weekend. I figure I have to swap the flywheel. Is my assumption of swapping the flywheel accurate? Do either the 87 or 95 use a keyed crankshaft? As in the bolts are not equally spaced  so you can only install the flywheel one way. If both are keyed are they keyed the same? If they are not keyed, is there a correct way to install the flywheel having the number 1 cylinder set to tdc? I imagine there is a correct way or the flywheel is keyed to get the Crank position sensormarks set correctly.

yes the flywheels will only fit one way.  I don't know if they are the same though.

I called tri-county gear, since they make their own flywheels and inertia rings. Actually I think they sub out the jobs.

Jason said I would need a dampner and a Crank sensor to swap the engine. So it would sound as if they use the same tone pattern on the flywheel.

TCG has another company do their work for them since they don't have the means.  I tracked the company years ago when I first heard of Jason using the ring.  The company wouldn't sell it even though TCG was on the fence to selling themselves.  I don't think they planned on doing it.

Although having nearly 50LBS of weight spinning sounds cool. I just talked to TCG for tech since Jason seems to be the all knowing when it comes to the 4 banger and flywheels.

I have a freind with an MPI yj spinning the TCG +9lb flywheel and the TCG 15lb inertia ring. He just put them in when he installed his 4to1 with 2wd low. Now he can't hold the jeep in in 2wd or 4wd low. Starts in 2nd gear etc.

Now he is looking for the WJ front and rear disc conversions. I just need to get this engine stuck in my jeep.

PS Jeffy, your still the 4 banger tech god. I don't know what we'd do without you.

Huh?  The 9lbs Inertia Ring is not a fly wheel nor is it 15lbs.  From what I remember he's running a TBI setup.

If you want to know about really low gearing talk to 'Scott', FourbangerYJ.  He's running a Klung in front of his D20.  Check out the video's he posted and you'll see what that Klune really does.  The gearing is really impressive.

Another member, Ratherbejeeping, did a WJ conversion for high steer and the two pot brakes on his D30.

Oh and the company's name was Standard Flywheel.

TCG's source (standard or whoever) makes a 9LB heavier flywheel for TCG. It's not an inertia ring , just a heavier (thicker) flywheel. and that was coupled with a 15lb inertia ring.

With that much weight, I'd imagine, it's very slow to react to changes.

He says it has the same acceleration just a slower wind down. But he's trail only so he doesn't worry so much about  the streetability.

Well, I know how the 9lbs inertia ring does.  What you're saying is that he in essence added 24lbs to it.  Have any pictures of the flywheel and ring?

I'll try to get some but he just left town thursday to spend time with his mother, most likely dying of cancer invading the heart.
