? im a bit confused. What i want to do is take this 98' 2.5L and use that motor in my 92yj. Im not going to be using the 98' computer. So i will be keeping the 92' computer and all the sensors and install them on the 98'. Will all that be compatible with the 98' block and head? Will the 98' block mate up to my ax5 tranny? Will the flywheel and clutch assembly be compatible aswell? Just incase I might have said wrong, just wanted to clarify my intentions. Its been a long day (111F) in a powder coat booth. Oh. And im assuming the 98' 2.5L is a 4cyl.
the only 2 thing that is not the same is -all the sensor as they dont plug whit the same connector and the water temp sensor beside the valve cover l/s on the rear of the head is not existant on a 98 head so you need to splice and go to the water thermostat housing -distributor shaft since it is not the same connector again but i suggest that you replace the intake manifold and exhaust since the engine is off --they all leak-- also in your case the oil pan will fit ok the reason i know that is because i put a 94 engine in my 98 tj it is realy easy to
Thanks. :) So i will need to swap distributors? And you say the exhaust and intake are prone to leaking?
Im about to undertake nearly the same task. The 2.5 in my 97 started a knockin, I have a 91 sittin 20ft away with a donor 2.5. From all I can gather I should be able to do a straight swap on the long blocks correct? Reusing my sensors, manifolds.. etc etc. I read something about the rotation of the waterpump being diff in the years? true/false?Smog is due sooner than I can get a rebuild of the current 2.5 so Im looking for something to run while I do that.
i think you can swap your pump (again, i think but not sure) or use the YJ serpentine belt routing pattern (if possible)
Swap cams... Swap the pump for a 'reverse' and reuse the YJ accessories...
is the cam any different? i thought they were all 424 lift and 114/110 center lobe 91 and up
