custom steering column?
« on: October 12, 2010, 12:36:49 AM »
Any of you guys know any links or anything where i might be able to find a custom steering colunn for my 95 YJ? I want something simple. I saw these dashes made by Double D fab  http://doubledfab.com/  and thought they looked really sharp and think a nice simple column would really compliment it. I would put all of the wipers and stuff on the dash with toggles if needed. This part of my Jeep won't happen for a bit but I just want to get a plan together for when I'm ready. is it possible to put a steering column from a CJ in or something?

        Thanks, Nate

All the appropriate parts are available form various dirt track suppliers.

Speedmart , Afco, Flaming River etc...

Just make sure you have a collapsing column...

Flaiming River makes a nice one where you can get it stripped down to basically nothing buy billet.  Then you can put the ignition on the dash...  Although that's a lot of work.

Just saw the Flaming River column. Its really nice but expensive. I saw alot of older GM columns too. I wonder if those would fit. probably a different wiring harness or something. I think one of those with a custom dash in the future would look really sharp and clean.

I don't know about the plugs BUT the Jeep column uses a GM bolt size.

GM and Jeep use Saginaw columns, most of them interchange to a point,
you have to swap parts around like the electrical part of the ignition switch.

U-pullit is the place to fiddle with this, the biggest obstacle is the Jeep uses
the shortest column of them all so you have to cut them down to fit lengthwise.

Used to buy Caddilac colums and transplant them into other rigs to gain the tilt feature.
Airbags have kinda killed that game.
