has anyone tried those shackle mounts on ebay that bolt onto frame where bumperetes go?  I prefer the shackles over hooks for recovery points and would rather be on the trail while saving for a lift and axle upgrade then fabbed bumpers to get on the trail.  thanks all input welcome..oh yea and I see rampage makes one for the front has anyone tried these?

Some peole have used them.  I don't know.  Currently, I have no rear point.  I'm planning on going simple with a 2x6" beam ffor a bumper.  Use tubes to sleeve the bumper mounts so the bumper mounts aren't in compression.  No welding required.  Then I'll probably have some D-links and maybe a 2" receiver.

I've got three rear bumpers and one front that I want to sell before getting a new one though.

my local newbee run is coming up and I want to be trail ready. I am in chicago so badlands and cliffs is not to far for weekend duty.  I would just like to have confidence in the shackle system so I can worry about mechanical and lift upgrade then bumpers which seem more cosmetic.

Well, the other option would be to get a rear bumper with a 2" receiver.  You can use those as a tow point.

The only problem I see with those stype of shackles is that they only use the crossmember as an attachment point, which can bend.  Same goes for bumpers though too.  If I was going to get pulled by the rear like that I'd loop the strap through both links so it pulls evenly.  Although most of the time you're not really that stuck and I doubt you'll get that stuck with your setup.

In any case you you can use them.  Cut them down and use them on your bumper later...
